Today I want to compare all the models you can choose from in the Weber Q Series. Weber Q grills are some of my favorite portable grills, but there are quite a few differences between them. We believe in offering the very best value, quality, and selection.
The pan is made from lightweight metal and has a recessed area in the center to hold a disposable tin. It’s supposed to slide in underneath the grill body, but the pan that came with my grill was the tiniest bit too big and wouldn’t slide into the grooves. I tried everything I could think of—rotating it, bending it, putting it in from the other side—and it simply wouldn’t fit.
The Q3200 is the only grill out of the weber q Series with a warming rack, something rarely seen in my reviews. Those accustomed to cooking on a full-sized grill know that a warming rack makes a difference to your barbecuing. Either of these grills would be great for those that don’t have the room for a full-size grill but still want the feel of a full-sized gas barbecue.
The highlight of the Q 1200 is its porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates. This is the same material that is known as the signature of top-quality cookware like Le Creuset. But behind that weight, you have a glass-reinforced nylon frame, supporting a cast aluminum body and lid, that cover a porcelain-enameled cast iron cook surface.
Not surprisingly, this grill doesn’t offer the control of full-size grills. This is not to say that it cannot be controlled, but that it will likely take a bit of a learning curve until you figure out how to do so. Temperature control tends to run away if this grill still has room to heat, i.e., it has yet to achieve its maximum temperature. Still, our testers were able to control the heat of this grill better than other models. As a portable gas grill that will likely appeal to novice cooks and experienced chefs alike, the accessibility of the Q 1200 is a major selling point. The battery-powered electronic ignition is the same you will find on a high-end, full-size grill.
Whether you are grilling in the park, on an expedition, or… Even on high output the flames are small, but they are numerous. They also offer two models with 285 square inches of cooking space and 20,000 BTUs, the X-Cursion and the 285. The X-Cursion has two burners while the 285 has three burners. The 285 also has two side tables, while the X-Cursion only has one. The Q1000 Series is lighter and more compact, while the Q2000 series has more grilling space and a taller lid.
