There are dozens of significant differences between the Weber Genesis II / SE grill models and their predecessors, but here we’ll focus on the most dramatic and significant improvements. This year, Weber has returned the favor by releasing their Genesis II SE Series grill only available to a few of their select Weber dealers, including Designer Appliances. You won’t find this model at your big box home improvement stores. The burners are the heart of any grill, and Weber has made major improvements to their burner designs in the Genesis II series.
The Spirit line of grills does not have representative products in the same size category. This model is a larger grill with four stainless steel burners that can deliver a total of 994 square inches of cooking area, divided into various segments. The new Genesis E-335 provides some quality upgrades over the last version of this grill. Gone is the 9,000 BTU sear station and in is the larger 13,000 BTU sear station. Weber has also added extra storage with the grill locker, perfect for storing any unused CRAFTED grill items and larger grill tools.
All the wheels are now swivel casters making it easier to move your grill, while two of the casters have locks to keep your grill stationary while grilling. One of the smaller models, the Spirit E-310 can still be enough to serve up to seven people. The fuel tank is mounted outside with a large, easy-to-read fuel gauge. The three burners put out 32,000 BTUs per hour over the 529 total square inches of cooking space. The main cooking are is 424 square inches and the warming rack adds another 105. The Spirit line serves as a more introductory line and the grills feature 32,000 BTUs per hour as their normal operating specs.
The use of triangular bars below the cooking surface that deflect grease off the burner, thereby reducing flare-ups. At the same time, the grease drips can sizzle and create smoke that can impart additional flavor to the food. A sear zone is basically three burners that are closer together than the other burners on the grill. What this does is create a zone on the grill that can get hotter much faster than other areas, which is great for speeding up the time it takes to get the grates hot enough for searing. On the other side of the size spectrum, the new Genesis series features grills with four and six burners for those who like to do some serious grilling. You can likely see the difference between these two sets of images—the old burners became more easily clogged, as well as suffering from uneven temperatures from the front of the grill to the back. The most common issue was a hotter front of the grill than the back as a result of the gas pressure not reaching the back of the grill. The new Genesis II burners solve both issues with a tapered design and larger, protruded openings to address these concerns with aplomb.
