If you already own some EGO products and have enough batteries, the trimmer can be purchased sans battery at a lower price. Yes, the battery always dies sooner than I like, but the EGO batteries run at full power until they need recharging with no power fade—a great feature. Extra batteries can always be purchased, but they are not cheap. I never understood why batteries cost so much when bought separately.
EGO parts are designed specifically for your EGO POWER+ products and offer the highest quality, performance and value. Great tool except the engineers who signed off on the variable speed trigger must not use string trimmers much. The new trimmer is not really variable speed like the old model. The new one is basically two speeds – fast and faster with nothing much in between.
Then press the POWERLOAD button and watch it wind into the head. It winds slowly enough so that there is little chance of the string disappearing completely into the head requiring you to start over. This model features a carbon fiber shaft, making it very strong, though the whole unit isn’t particularly light. I have a decent sized yard and can trim and edge twice on one charge with juice left over. The auto feed system works incredibly well. (But it’s doing its job. The cord length is always perfect) I’m 6′ and don’t have to hunch over which really saves my back. I attached a shoulder strap to the mount that came with it and it balances so well that I barely have to touch the trimmer outside of pulling the trigger. I tried the 2nd speed setting once but didn’t need it.

One other big change EGO is making is that both the powerhead and string trimmer attachment with a carbon fiber shaft. Cumbersome is the word that comes to mind after working with this string trimmer throughout the yard. Since we had to hold it at various awkward angles when trimming thinner brush, it’s not the model we want to use for bigger jobs, despite its power.
