The shaft for the end part comes out of a coupler. In the case of this system since the motor is on the end of the trimmer head – that sort of negates the attachment idea. Otherwise you would put motors in each attachment. No more mixing gas and oil but still having the power. It’s a good company that has well designed tools and great warranties.

This trimmer churns through thick grasses and stubborn brush with ease. This had our testers holding the trimer in awkward, un-ergonomic positions when doing smaller jobs. If you want a string trimmer to power through thick brush, this option works great. For cleaning up grassy yards after mowing, though, we advise you to look elsewhere. The respectable 15-inch cutting swath lets you get a good amount of work done.

It’s hard to overstate what an improvement this is to what’s often the single-worst aspect of using a string trimmer. With most other trimmers, the entire trimmer head needs to be disassembled and the new line manually wound onto the spool . Ego’s system is a much-needed improvement in this area. I bought the first Ego product, the 12″ string trimmer, when it first came out about 4-5 years ago. It was a disaster due to a poorly designed head that made line feeding frustrating, no matter how carefully the string was wound on the spool. I bought this 15″ model when it first came out as initial reviews suggested they finally designed a working head.
