Pipe Smoking

A well-made – and well-packed – pipe is the equivalent to a well-constructed cigar. Pack a pipe with too much tobacco too tightly, and you’ll get a very plugged draw if you get any smoke at all. These old-timers were not smoking a refined Latakia-Cavendish blend of tobacco.

The most common color grades are lemon, golden, and red. Ignoring a great many factors , the color of a VA relates to its sugar content. Tobacco that is cured longer will be less sweet than a tobacco cured quickly. Comprised of red Virginias, generous amounts of course and cube cut Burleys and a whisper of Perique, this blend offers a rich, medium-bodied smoke with the subtleties of nuts and spice. A blend of special light and dark tobaccos flavored with genuine Scotch whiskey from the Highland of Scotland. Black Cavendish brings its vanilla magic to the foreground while the perfect touch of Golden Cavendish rounds out the flavor.

Peaches & Cream is a mild to medium strength, all-day smoke with the perfect dollop of light sweetness and no bite. Pipe Tobacco

Some producers use humectants to maintain a specific moisture level in the final product. You’ll hear people talk about PG, or propylene glycol, the most commonly used humectant these days. It’s generally spoken of in rather disparaging terms, thought it’s not the PG that deserves the condemnation, but the blending houses who use it with reckless abandon. If the tobacco won’t dry out, PG is likely the culprit.

This sugar-free chemical makeup is very desirable to blenders because it makes burley a sort of tabula rasa for the tobacconist’s art. Blenders call burley a “drinkable” tobacco because it readily absorbs flavorings and sugary sauces, making it ideal for the creation of flavored Pipe Tobacco in Canss. The blender can precisely control the level of sweetness because the only sugars present are those deliberately introduced.

Army – Enables the pipe smoker to remove the stem from the shank while hot without fear of warping. A variety of other materials may also be used for pipes. The Redmanol corporation manufactured pipes with translucent stems in the 1920s and a series of pipes were manufactured and distributed by the Tar Gard Corporation of San Francisco from 1965 to 1975. The size of bowls also increased over time as tobacco became a cheaper commodity, and later pipes tend to be more decorated. The material is not very strong and the early varieties had long thin stems, so they frequently broke, but were cheap to replace.
