For grilling, you want a hot fire, so you want plenty of air to come in. The amount of charcoal you want to use depends on what and how much food you’re cooking. If you’re dealing with, say, a steak you want to sear, you’ll want a full chimney weber charcoal grill starter (or a few pounds of coals). This is the perfect cart design for a casual griller, with just enough cooking area (about 324 square inches) for a small party, a folding shelf for a plate, and a large bottom shelf for a tray.

Your mileage may vary, but with proper care and maintenance you can expect your Weber grill to last for many years. Easy to Clean- With the patented One-Touch Cleaning System in Weber Grills, charcoal ash can be removed quickly with one hand. The porcelain-enamel blast-fired coating allows for effortless removal of soot with just some soapy water. Beginners will quickly be able to learn the correct damper positions in order to achieve a consistent temperature, as we did.

Masterbuilt’s Gravity Series charcoal grills work similarly to how an electric-powered pellet grill works, minus the auger that pulverizes the fuel ahead of it hitting the firebox. The grates are made of cast iron, but they are coated in porcelain. The porcelain coating prevents food from sticking, so the grates don’t need seasoning.

Due to the issue above, one of the only modifications I’d make is adding a second thermometer to the lid at grate-level. To make this even simpler, you could buy another thermometer to upgrade the kettle and install it on the exhaust damper side at grate-level. The exhaust vent is placed over the food because you want to pull smoke over your meat. With that said, I really only have one problem with the Weber Kettle and it’s with the way Weber opted to setup their lid thermometer.

Plus, the size-to-weight ratio is fabulous; there’s a lot of grate space, but it’s light enough to move it around to wherever I feel like grilling. There’s a learning curve, of course, when it comes to controlling heat on a charcoal grill, but once learned, it’s plain sailing from there. As with all charcoal grills, your briquettes or lumps rest near the bottom of the bowl on a grate that keeps them off the base of the pit to allow airflow. Spider Grills Pella manages to make the charcoal-fueled Weber a wood-pellet grill in an elegant and easy way.

These vents are also useful when extinguishing the fire, as closing them cuts off oxygen. The Weber Original Kettle Premium Charcoal Grill 22″ is our pick weber charcoal grill as the best charcoal grill for most people. In our tests it outperformed the other grills in cooking, ease of assembly, and user-friendly details.

This’ll give you more temperature zones, and make getting everything to the table so much easier. Lastly, you need to make sure your grill fits your allotted space, and/or is able to move, should you need to store it or bring it on a roadtrip. This grill’s open cart design provides additional storage space for your favorite tools, and it has integrated hooks on the side tables, as well. The grill is available in several colors, and it has an easy-to-read fuel gauge next to the propane tank to let you know how much fuel you have remaining.
