The integrated thermometer — available from 150°F to 600°F — allows you to accurately monitor internal temperatures without having to lift the lid and lose critical heat. The regulator is integrated into the body and employs an infinite controller that is easily adjusted between clearly marked low, medium, and high settings. The Q series grills are designed for grilling, although there are cases of people roasting on them, grilling is by far the strength of this series. The cooking grate is made of porcelain enameled cast iron the burners are not inhibited by flavorizer bars so the grate gets direct heat from the flame. Weber creatively created the grates to ensure that any grease or drippings bypass the direct flame.
The grill was incredibly easy to use—with a push of the ignition button, a blue flame quickly shot up all around the stainless steel burner, which circles the bottom of the grill body. From charcoal to gas to pellet grills, portable bbq there are plenty of grills on the market that are capable of fulfilling all of your grilling needs. Gas grills, in particular, are great due to their ability to control the heat temperature while they’re in use.
The weber q 1200 is an unexpectedly powerful grill, resulting in cook times that were much faster than expected for such a petite barbecue. Like other top models, this is all thanks to a single, U-shaped burner that effectively delivers heat across the range of the grill surface. Both grills have identical warranties with five-year coverage on the cookbox, lid assembly, burner tubes, cooking grates, and plastic components while covering every other part for two years.
I’m not sure if the pan itself was just a fraction too big or if the grill’s legs were bent, but eventually, I ended up using a pair of snips to trim a few centimeters off either side of the tray. I was curious if this was a common issue with the grill, and after combing through hundreds of reviews, I couldn’t find any mention of other people having this problem. It seems like it was a one-off fluke, and honestly, the resolution was simple enough that it didn’t bother me too much. Weber has replacement drip pans available to purchase, as well as covers to help keep the grills protected from the elements. If you want a lighter grill that’s easier to transport, then the Q1200 might be the better option.
The Q3200 is the only grill out of the Weber Q Series with a warming rack, something rarely seen in my reviews. Those accustomed to cooking on a full-sized grill know that a warming rack makes a difference to your barbecuing. Either of these grills would be great for those that don’t have the room for a full-size grill but still want the feel of a full-sized gas barbecue.
But considering the quality of their products, you can expect a long and happy culinary relationship with this grill. They also offer two models with 285 square inches of cooking space and 20,000 BTUs, the X-Cursion and the 285. The X-Cursion has two burners while the 285 has three burners. The 285 also has two side tables, while the X-Cursion only has one. The Q1000 Series is lighter and more compact, while the Q2000 series has more grilling space and a taller lid.
The enameled cast iron cooking grates are easier to clean and distribute heat more efficiently. Unequivocally, the Weber Q 1200 is a fantastic portable grill, taking the top spot as our favorite. However, it is relatively expensive compared to other top models we tested. In particular, the Cuisinart Grillster produces a ton of power for a gas grill, and is offered at a phenomenal price. The infrared Solaire Everywhere also packs a punch for its size, and should be on the radar of any meat griller.
