Roomba® Robot Vacuums

Again like the Eufy, it returns to the charging base if it runs out of battery before the house is finished and then resumes the job once fully charged. Infrared sensors keep it off the stairs, though like other bump bots, it can’t avoid obstacles like lamp cords. This ends up in surprisingly good overall coverage, but you may find that some areas that trap the robot get lots of attention, and more open areas just get one quick pass. Finally, for peak convenience, consider a robot vacuum that comes with a clean base. These are basically garbage bins that are attached to the machine’s charging base.

Turn cleaning from something you do to something that happens around your life. If that stain-clearing capability is important to you, it’s hard to go wrong with the basic Roborock S7. It features the same ultrasonic mopping system as the flagship S7 MaxV to scrub away dried-on stains. Unlike the more powerful S7 MaxV or Ecovacs, it doesn’t have a secondary set of camera sensors that would allow it to spot and react shark cordless to low-lying hazards in real-time, instead relying only on a LIDAR sensor to map out its coverage area. Every Wi-Fi-connected robot vacuum worth its salt today works with Alexa or Google smart speakers for voice control, although some are limited to just stop / start and pause, whereas others can be told to go clean specific areas. The S7 is the best option for a bot that can actually mop at a semi-accessible price.

We’ve also discovered that, as of late 2021, several other brands are selling near-copies of the Eufy bots. Senior staff writer Rachel Cericola first started testing smart-home devices more than 20 years ago, when the only smart-home devices were X10. She has been covering smart-home gear for Wirecutter since 2016, and she has had her hands on everything from in-wall light switches, LED bulbs, and water-leak detectors to video doorbells, outdoor security cameras, and security systems.

It can also identify the type of room it’s in based on the furniture and automatically suggest different cleaning modes for distinct areas, like bedrooms, kitchens, or bathrooms. It performs remarkably well on bare floors and does an okay job cleaning carpets. As of 2022, iRobot markets models of their 600, i, j, Combo and s9 series, while continuing to provide support and sell accessories for their previous series.

Floors cluttered with obstacles like wires, charging cords, toys, shoes and clothing can stop robots in their tracks. Some robot vacuum models clean tile, wood flooring and different types dyson robot vacuum of carpet better than others. Neato cleaned up in this test, with the Neato D9 leading all of our CNET-tested cleaners overall and the less-expensive Neato D8 coming in third overall.

This is not going to do much to mop your floors, but it does help with fine dust and debris. A mapping robot, the Shark has room-specific cleaning and app-enabled keep-out zones. It also has a handy Zones feature that lets you select areas of your house — say, half the living room and the hallway — to clean on a schedule. This is useful for regular, quick cleans in high-traffic areas, and it doesn’t need to be set up every time you run it, as with some clean zone options.

The mapping feature allows you to set a schedule to clean only certain rooms or send it off at any time to clean just the kitchen or living room. This helps make it less intrusive since it doesn’t try to clean the whole house on every run — meaning you’re less likely to find it sitting silently in a corner because an annoyed family member shut it off. However, it does take a long time to map your home initially , because iRobot uses its own navigation tech and not lidar, which most other mapping bots use to map in minutes. This is a good option if you need a basic bot that will get the job done and don’t mind ditching the fancy features of the higher-end models. It’s a powerful robot that rarely got stuck in my testing, even on my high-pile, fluffy, tasseled living room rug I’ve nicknamed the robot killer. Your robot vacuum will only clean your home as thoroughly as it’s capable of navigating it.

The Roomba 694, on the other hand, was easy for us to strip down and then reassemble with just a screwdriver. The Roborock app has tons of features and customizations, and it gives you more control over navigation than you can find on other robot vacs. It also provides a better user experience and works more reliably than its closest competitors’ apps. The dust- and crumb-pickup stress tests are meant only to give us an idea of each bot’s cleaning power—they don’t tell the whole story.
