Dyson Robot Vacuum: Price, Release Date, Features and More

Boosting power over the original by 20%, the 360 Heurist is just about the most powerful vacuum cleaner I’ve used, easily dealing with mess on all surfaces from hard floors to carpet. Thanks to the motorised brush that runs the entire width of the vacuum cleaner, you get full suction power right up to the edges of rooms, doing away with the need for side-sweeping brushes. We ran the 360 Eye through a series of tests on plush mid-pile carpet, thinner berber carpet, and hardwood floors. On each surface we scored its ability to pick up 2.5 ounces of rice, 0.2 ounces of pet hair, and 1.25 ounces of sand. Over two dozen test runs later and the 360 Eye ended up scoring well compared to many of the non-smart robot vacuums we’ve reviewed, but not as well as either the Roomba 980 or the Neato Botvac Connected overall.

However, the vacuum goes in ten-foot grid areas to cover the floor, ensuring it covers every possible square foot. If you have a complex floor plan or have a lot of furniture, the grids will get interrupted, and the robot will have to find a new route. The combination of a strong motor and high-tech 360 degree camera make very good option for cleaning homes autonomously.

The unnamed robovac comes in the same striking nickel blue color as its predecessor, and has tank treads and a detachable dust bin, just like Dyson’s previous forays into this product category. It also looks like the device has the Heurist’s 360-degree camera with LED lighting ring. Those LEDs are important, as they ensure the device can navigate in the dark — handy if you want your robovac to clean when you’re out or asleep.

And yet, he says, the 20th century’s body-powered split hook is “more modern,” its design more willing to break the mold of the human hand. The research was conducted while Spiers was a research scientist at Yale University’s GRAB Lab, headed by Aaron Dollar. In addition to Dollar, he worked closely with grad student Jillian Cochran, who coauthored the study.

That means you have to either turn the vacuum around or pick it up completely to remove the bin. Both the Roomba 980 and the Botvac Connected have very accessible bins that you can reach when they’re docked. irobot vacuum cleaner Yes, the 4.72-inch-high 360 Eye is 1.12 inches taller than the Roomba 980 and 0.82 inches taller than the Neato Botvac Connected — its two main competitors in the Wi-Fi-enabled robo-vac market.

The 360 Eye is has a small footprint, but is taller than most robot vacuums. To get from those bare floors to the carpet, the Dyson 360 Eye travels around on tank treads. We observed the Eye climbing atop risers up to two-thirds of an inch tall without getting stuck. In the real world, that means that high-pile throw rugs and metal thresholds will not daunt the 360 Eye in the least. Dyson’s first robot vacuum does a great job picking up dirt—but has trouble reaching it.

IRobot, on the other hand, argues thatyou clean significantly better bymaking multiple passes from different directions. I tend to believe iRobot on this one (based on reviews I’ve conducted of various robot vacuums), but Dyson vacuums are famous for their ludicrously powerful motors, which may offset that. Dyson’s FCC filings also detailed a more square design at the back of its unannounced robot vacuum as well as a beefier charging base.
