It’s large enough to grill about six larger hamburger patties or around 18 regular hotdogs. Alternatively, two smaller steaks on one side and a veggie pack on the other. I find this to be the ideal size for two people who grill regularly, or in some cases, a family with young children. If you only use your grill for meat and not for any sides such as potatoes or veggies, it will up to six people. Very little has changed since I reviewed two Weber Q grills over seven years ago. A slight model name change and some cosmetic updates are the only differences between the old and new grills.
In 2014 Weber split the cooking grate to accomodate an optonal cast iron griddle on one side. With an MSRP of $269, the Weber Q 2200 Gas Grill is definitely one of the more expensive portable gas grills you can buy. However, it’s also one of the largest and most powerful on the market.
If you would prefer to connect a much more economical and refillable 20lb propane cylinder, Weber makes an accessory adapter and hose that will do that. There is also an aftermarket kit that will let you convert a Q grill to use your RV’s low-pressure quick-disconnect line. Cleaning is never fun, but the grills are much easier to clean than most other portable grills on the market. Everything went smoothly until it came to the catch pan—because nothing can ever just be that easy, right? The pan is made from lightweight metal and has a recessed area in the center to hold a disposable tin.
Beyond size, the rest of the features remain the same as found in the Q1000 series. The Q2200 offers a built-in thermometer in the hood and electronic ignition. The Q2000 comes with the standard push-button ignition and no thermometer.
Speaking of weight, one of the few negative things that I do have to say about the Weber Q 2200 is regarding how heavy it is. For a portable gas grill, it can be quite heavy, making it difficult to lug around, particularly on its own. Lastly, the Q3200 includes a significant feature that none of the other grills have. The Q3200 is the only grill out of the Weber Q Series with a warming rack, something rarely seen in my reviews.
If it passes the break-in period without improving, then give Weber a call. They will likely replace your regulator free of charge. A stainless steel Q-shaped burner tube produces 8,500 BTUs of heat, which the grill efficiently and evenly disperses across the entire grill surface. It takes minutes to preheat thoroughly, but it must be preheated with the lid down. The grill surface is roughly 12½″ front to back and 16¾″ side to side at its widest points.

If you have a Phillips-head screwdriver and a can-do attitude, you’ll be able to set up the Weber Q 2200 Grill in a matter of minutes. After pulling the grill and its pieces out of the box, I attached the lid using the included pins and screwed on the grill’s handle and thermometer. The control valve and ignition button simply slip into place, and the ignition even comes with the necessary AAA battery. Once that’s done, all that’s left to do is place the grates on the grill and slide the catch pan into place.
Things change, but we believe Weber’s commitment to quality and innovation has not. Heat Flux is the BTU per square inch and is a more useful measure of how much heat a grill delivers than BTU alone. To ensure you choose the correct replacement part for your grill, we recommend removing the original part and comparing it to what we list. You can also check your owner’s manual to make sure this part will work with your grill. The only real difference is that the 2200 is a bit bigger and it has a hood thermometer. However, what I have seen of the 2200 makes it a good investment for you.
Everything else (I’m assuming fasteners, hardware, and thermometer) is protected by warranty for two years. The heavy-duty cast-iron grates have a tough porcelain coating. The essential parts – the grill box, lid, and grill grates – are composed of cast aluminum. Nylon reinforced with glass portable bbq – in a fiberglass kind of way, I assume – is heat resistant and durable. Even as a seasoned BBQ cook, I am still excited by the electronic ignition on this gas grill. If you have ever tried to manually start a fire, even on an electric grill, then you know what a hassle it can be.
