Gotham Steel Cookware Sets

Also ditch your nonstick pan if the coating has deep scratches. But before you throw your pan in the trash, check your local recycling program to see whether it accepts cookware. The Anolon Advanced 10-Inch French Skillet is a sturdily constructed anodized Cookware Sets aluminum skillet with a riveted, silicone-coated handle. It has generously sloped sides and a bent lip, and it can survive oven temperatures up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The downsides of this pan are its small cooking surface and tendency to get very hot.

It’s flat, so easier to stabilize with your arm rather than just your hand. The pan body is a little on the thin side and the pans are very light (the 11-inch skillet weighs just 1.6 lbs, which is very light). This isn’t horrible for an all-aluminum pan, but it’s definitely on the thin side.

But some specifically mentioned that they hand wash these pans. Gotham Steel claims they’re dishwasher-safe, but it’s best to treat these pans with kid gloves. The major difference between the diamond and the titanium cooking surfaces is the texture.

PFOA is a nasty environmental contaminant, and is probably also a carcinogen. However, we don’t have good knowledge of what it’s been replaced with, and it’s entirely possible that the new material used is also dangerous. PFOS is the larger chemical family PFOA belongs to, so when cookware claims to be PFOS-free as well as PFOA-free, this is good–but we still don’t know what they’re using. Without full disclosure about this from cookware makers, it’s impossible to say if it’s safe–and therefore an ongoing concern.

If you want to buy whole sets of nonstick, we understand; a lot of people do. But you can save yourself quite a bit of money, reduce landfill waste, and compromise very little cuisinart knife when it comes to cleaning by buying only nonstick skillets. Our first recommendation for buying nonstick cookware is to buy skillets only, and avoid buying entire sets.
