Weber Q1200 Review: Portable Beauty or a Overweight Beast?

The weber q2200 gets amazing reviews and, thanks to its aluminum and rigid plastic construction, does not rust. The resistance to rust is really important if you plan on keeping the grill uncovered outside or near a swimming pool. Love that you don’t have to haul around bags of charcoal.

Instead of just ordering a pizza, he and his coworkers decided to have a parking lot cookout at lunchtime, and I offered to let them use the Weber to test its portability. He packed up the grill in the bed of his truck, and while he was surprised weber q at its weight—which is more than 40 pounds—he really liked that it felt sturdy and durable. Using the grill, he was able to cook easily for himself and four coworkers, and they all agreed that the burgers and hot dogs came out great.

I have a lot of experience with the Q Series grills and, while I am a big fan of the Q series, there are a few things that could be improved. In fact, when I was shopping for a new grill I took a hard look at this one weber charcoal grill at Costco but bought another Weber model instead. Please keep in mind that while the body of the grill will never rust, the grates and burner tubes will if you do not keep the grill properly cleaned between uses.

The regulator is integrated into the body and employs an infinite controller that is easily adjusted between clearly marked low, medium, and high settings. The body and the lid of Weber Q1000 is made of cast aluminum, making it durable as well as lightweight. The burner, on the other hand, is made from high-grade stainless steel, while the iron-cast cooking grates are coated with porcelain for additional protection. If this was not enough, Weber has reinforced nylon frame with glass, making this grill quite tough. The highlight of the Q 1200 is its porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates. This is the same material that is known as the signature of top-quality cookware like Le Creuset.

The heavy-duty cast-iron grates have a tough porcelain coating. Contrary to many opinions, as long as you take the time to preheat appropriately, they will absorb and distribute heat evenly, resulting in delicious seared-in flavor. Apart from this, the grill comes with a long six-foot grounded cord to help you keep the grill at a distance from the power source for safety.

Remove the grease tray and dispose of the liner and its contents appropriately. Remove grill grates, them, and using warm, soapy water, wipe out the grill body and lid, inside and out. The grill grates are cast iron and are more plate-like where they cover the burner.

A final note to all coastal dwellers or poolside grillers, wash and rinse down the exterior surfaces regularly to keep your warranty valid. I’m embarrassed at how long it’s taken me to publish this review, but here I am, four years after the Weber Q redesign, dragging my feet to compile all of my notes. If you like to cook with really high temperatures—I’m talking over 500 degrees—you might have trouble getting there with only one burner.
