The edge of the blade is stainless to begin with. If you’re not careful you could take the color off higher up. I had the same question, so I called Cuisinart today to check on this issue. They say the knives are NOT dishwasher safe and that if they were it would be indicated on the box . I always wash mine by hand to prevent possible chipping and dulling of the blades banging around in the dishwasher. They clean up very easily under a running faucet though and are still like new.
