A robotic vacuum won’t replace your trusty upright or canister vacuum for deep-cleaning rugs. Self-emptying models tend to come with vacuum bags in the charging base, whereas dustbins on the robot vacuum themselves tend to be bagless.

Both have great navigation with LIDAR navigation that makes them very accurate. Connectivity can be a challenge, with the bot often losing floor plans, requiring remapping of the space. The Botvac D7 Includes magnetic dividing strips that you can cut up to establish no-go zones in your home, although you can also set up virtual no-go zones in the included app too. The virtual mapping allows you to create a map for the bot that’s much more versatile than using the strips alone. Other users like how the unit can be upgraded by adding a mopping module or a self-emptying dock. Yeedi’s voice is a bit too loud, even when you have it on the lowest setting.

The Roomba works by using smart sensors that allow the robot to adjust to your home’s features and layout. These sensors also allow Roomba to navigate under and around furniture, and along edges, while the Cliff Detect technology keeps it from falling down stairs. The auto-adjust cleaning head automatically adjusts its height to clean carpets and hard floors.

It’s also Wi-Fi-enabled and Alexa-compatible, it connects to Yeedi’s app, and now there’s a self-empty station ($200.) It works, but I have occasionally had trouble getting the vac to settle properly onto the ports. No robot vacuum can climb stairs , so if you want hands-free cleaning everywhere, you’ll want to budget for one per floor or be prepared to move it around. You can also buy extra charging bases, and some models can map multiple floors.

But, it’s great at doing the one thing it needs to do well, and that’s picking up debris. A newcomer to the world of robot vacuums, Yeedi’s 3-in-1 device impressed us with its ability to mop efficiently with rotation mop heads that self-clean every ten minutes. It was also good at tackling debris on our floors, though it’s much more effective at cleaning central areas than it is at getting close to the baseboards. The best robot vacuum cleaners can transform your weekly cleaning schedule into more free time to do other things. Though they’re not entirely self-sufficient, there’s something absolutely wonderful about being able to put your feet up while your robot helper gets to work making your floors fluff-free.

For the 600 and e series, press and hold the “home” and “spot clean” buttons for 10 seconds. Many homes have areas that aren’t always ready for a vacuum to roll through. Roombas have customizable keep-out zones, so users can create spots where the robot vacuum knows not to venture. This might mean staying clear of an area of tangled cords under a desk, a playroom’s toy zone, or the dog’s water bowl. Users can give specific areas names such as “living room” or “kitchen” for custom schedules and voice activation.

Customers really loved the versatility of establishing no-go zones to keep the bot out of certain rooms or areas that housed power and charging cords. Many pet owners were happy how well it managed to clean up their pets’ hair. Some suggested using the “gentle navigation” mode to prevent damage to walls and other items should the sensors fail. The Botvac D7 isn’t cheap and is similar to the Roomba 900 series in price.
