The Weber Genesis II is sturdy, smart and app-connected

The Weber Genesis is also available in both natural gas and propane variants, meaning you can have options when it comes to your personal setup. Then, it’ll be up to you to decide if this gas grill is all it’s made out to be. Another advantage the iGrill app has over SmartChef is a simple wizard to setup probes to actively monitor your food while it cooks.

That’s great but still slightly behind competitors like Broil King and Napoleon which offer 15 years. Take a closer look at a Genesis II model if you’re ready for a top-notch grill that delivers on every level. Next, let’s find out whether the original Genesis line offered any perks that the Genesis II units don’t have.

This two-burner grill was slower to preheat than the top grills in our tests and might need more than 10 minutes to reach the grilling temperature you want. Once it does, our tests show that the temperature remains constant across the grates. Indirect cooking, where food is placed off a direct flame, was very good. The Genesis Series has been a staple of the Weber BBQ lineup since 1985.

The burner ports have a rounded shape instead of narrow slits, and they’re also larger in size. This means that the ports are less likely to become clogged due to corrosion or grease buildup, which cuts down on maintenance. While the numbers don’t point to any discernible difference, the burners on the updated model are more powerful overall.

Grab each deflector plate and pull straight upwards as with the grates. Grab on each side of the grill grate with your hands and lift straight upwards. However, the improvement outweigh these few issues, and these are still the best grills your money can buy.

The burners are the heart of any grill, and Weber has made major improvements to their burner designs in the Genesis II series. These new burners provide even heat throughout the cooking surface, making every inch of the grate an effective, predictable and dependable cooking surface. Weber Genesis II Stainless Steel Gas GrillsThe weber charcoal grill stainless steel selection of Weber Genesis gas grills comes with a very important feature beyond the obvious outside styling. The grates in S-315, S-335, S-435, and SX-335 gas grills are 7 mm thick stainless steel rods. Weber Genesis II Entry ModelsWeber Genesis II entry models feature either an open storage are or a closed one.

Plus, each burner ignites independently, with infinite adjustments between “on” and “full,” giving you total control over your heat distribution. Since the grill rests on an open cart, it doesn’t feel overly bulky. But, there’s lots of storage space between the slatted lower shelf and the wire shelf that holds the grease drip pan. It’s ideally suited to grillers who love to cook all the barbecue favorites like steaks, burgers, chops, and more to absolute perfection. Plus, with three burners, you can set up multi zone cooking for roasts, whole poultry, and other large cuts. For $200 more, you get an extra burner and enhanced performance.

Weber has used high-quality materials throughout like porcelain-enameled cast iron, and stainless steel. With this grill, Weber has taken all the features people love about gas grills and ‘premiumized’ them. The grill is also “iGrill 3 Ready,” which is to say, you can buy an iGrill 3—a type of remote thermometer—and stick it in the spot where the LED gas gauge goes. That means if you’re standing in front of the grill, you’d have to open an app just to read the temperature on the thermometer directly under your nose. Apps and Bluetooth connections can be great additions to cooking hardware, but in cases like this, they also get in the way. The iGrill 2 has an easy-to-read LED on its base that displays temperature; having no readout on the iGrill 3 is straight-up dumb.

At Designer Appliances, we have been working closely with Weber for years to offer our customers the absolute best grill lineups while also providing unparalleled customer support. This year, Weber has returned the favor by releasing their Genesis II SE Series grill only available to a few of their select Weber dealers, including Designer Appliances. You won’t find this model at your big box home improvement stores. Uniquely tapered burner tubes provide consistent pressure, including alignment from front to back, which provides a more consistent flame and even heat profile.
