The more expensive Shark IQ XL and the Ecovacs Deebot N79S can only be changed with the remote when the unit is stopped. I appreciated this feature as I was able to turn on Boost IQ and then Max when the vacuum got close to the living room, which has a medium-pile carpet. At some point, you might have to erase your old maps and re-train the robot. Unfortunately, Ecovacs includes some other features that make me give it the side-eye, like onboard cameras, speakers, and a microphone so you can … roll the vacuum up to your toddler and talk to them? And it doesn’t include basic protections like two-factor authentication. If you have the cash, this is one of your best options for a clean kitchen floor, but if it creeps you out, you have other options.
They not only help you to reduce how frequently you need to clean by a significant amount, but they make these sparse instances so much easier to get through than before. As mentioned, they are meant to supplement your cleaning routine, and aren’t meant to serve as a complete replacement. Traditional vacuums are simply more powerful and effective at cleaning than their autonomous counterparts. Many are also unable to clean carpeting with any sort of depth, and may easily become stuck.
