There is no doubt that the Series 5 is in a whole other league compared to shaving with the series 3. But if you are feeling frugal or are in circumstances where you have to count every penny then there are websites dedicated to making your own cleaning solution. Overall I am pretty impressed with the shaving experience and would highly recommend, as long as you can get over the fact it feels like a jackhammer in your hand.

The 73b was just a bit too grabby and harsh. The closeness was about the same when fitted to the Series 5 . If you plan on shaving less often or have Braun Series 5 a coarser beard, I think you’ll be happier with this one. While definitely more expensive than the 5018s, the 5140s is a better shaver in every way.
I’d say that it’s slightly more comfortable than a Series 3 ProSkin, while the closeness is pretty much the same. At the moment of writing this review, the cassette is not yet available for purchase. You should switch the shaver on for a few seconds after that to help distribute the oil evenly across the cutters. If you clean the razor with soap after every shave, then you should also lubricate it after every shave. Shake off the excess water and optionally pat the parts dry with a clean cloth.

If you treat this as a shaver that you must use with the cleaning station then you won’t be disappointed. Braun’s cleaning stations work the best out of all the major brands and the Series 7 did not disappoint. The alcohol based cleaning detergent thoroughly removed all traces of hair clippings and even lubricated the blades. The amount of cleaning required is determined by the amount of time the shaver has been used, not by how dirty the shaving heads actually are.
