Alen BreatheSmart 45i Quiet, Big Room Air Purifier, Plus Extra HEPA Filter

For our latest review, we’ve turned to the Austin-based air purifier manufacturer Alen, to put the BreatheSmart 45i through its paces. Alen are widely regarded as one of the top innovators on the market, creating high-performing purifiers and long-lasting filters. If the circle is red, you have ‘dirty air’ or poor air quality.

At the top fan speed setting, the noise levels rise to 56 dB which is not ideal. Granted, the smaller FLEX also has 55 dB noise levels at Turbo Speed but the new 45i and 75i models have managed to reduce that number to 49 dB, a considerable difference. However, at the highest speed – Turbo Speed – it consumes 105W of energy. It is a large room air purifier, larger air consumption is expected, but the Classic model does drain more energy than comparable energy-efficient large room air purifiers. This model has four fan speeds, and at its highest, it can produce up to 49 decibels of sound frequency.

Even when running on speed 2, this air purifier is able to clean the air in a 700 square feet room achieving 2 air changes per hour. The efficacy of an air purifier is typically measured in air exchanges per hour, or how many times within an hour the air in a room is completely replaced. A rate of six exchanges per hour or more is considered very good and would meet our standards.

Testing performed by our experts shows air quality decreases significantly after only two hours of turning off your air purifier. We recommend running your air purifier 24/7 to maintain the purest air possible. Filter changes are needed every 6 months when following this recommendation. Intelligent sensor technology always lets you know the status of the air quality around you. If you have poor air quality and are running this air purifier on auto-mode it will be noisy.

The BreatheSmart Classic purifier has a fixed size, but it also offers two interchangeable covers. It is surprisingly lightweight, making it easy to move from room to room. Truth be told, Alen BreatheSmart Classic drain quite a lot of energy given its CADR rated output.

If your square footage exceeds the listed square footage for your air purifier, it can still clean your room, but the rate at which it can do so decreases. When the air exchanges per hour drop to a certain point, you won’t be receiving all of the benefits of allergen-free, breathable air. For optimal performance, a good rule of thumb lasko pedestal fans is to find an air purifier that can cover more than the square footage of your room. Beside this, Are more expensive air filters better than cheap ones? More expensive filters will cost more not only at the register but also when paying energy bills. Conversely, the more expensive one will filter more and provide better air quality.
