The 5018s is a decent, but quite basic electric shaver and it’s a pretty good choice for a first electric shaver. As long as you don’t have particularly difficult facial hair and you don’t need the closest shave, it should be good enough. I’m a fan of how thorough the brand is in terms of foil shavers and the cleaning.

Speick + the Series cc is now my go-to setup for a dry shave. As mentioned previously, the shaving heads of the Series 3 and the new Series 5 are strikingly similar. Men with sensitive skin that usually shave more often can consider the 5018s.
The Foil gives the closest shaves from an electric Razor, however nothing is better than steel blades for close evening entertainment. Change cleaning cartridge at least every 8 weeks. The lock symbol lights up in the display when the shaver has been locked to avoid unintended starting of the motor (e.g. for storing it in a suitcase). To shave hard-to-reach areas (e.g. under the nose) slide the MultiHeadLock switch down to lock the shaver head. The shaver head can be locked in five positions. The charge status is shown in the shaver display .During charging the respective charging segment will blink.
The cleaning cartridge also contains lubricants for the shaving system, which may leave residual marks on the outer foil frame and the cleaning chamber of the C&C. These marks can be removed easily by wiping gently with a damp cloth. As I have mentioned above, these attachments are close to useless in my experience and dedicated trimmers or groomers work much better.
This will be of great help to those of you who are tempted to apply too much pressure when shaving. In our Series 7 review we looked at how you could take the head of the series 7 and slide perfectly on to of the Series 5, picture below. The beard trimmer is identical to that of the Series 9.

2020 New generation – It’s worth noting that this shaver is from the 2020 new generation of series 5 shavers. There have been some changes since the pre-2020 models with pros and cons, but let’s stick to the current versions for this review article. The 5020cs, 5018s, 5035s, 5049cs, 5050cs are the US models, and the 50-B1200s, 50-W4650cs, 50-M4500cs , 50-W1500s , 50-B4650cs are the EU/UK models. They’re the exact same shaver and there are likely more model numbers, but that covers more than enough.
I tried cleaning my 5018s exclusively in this manner for the first 3 shaves just to see how effective it is. But if you need to pre-trim a beard, it’s definitely better than any integrated trimmer. You’ll have to manually remove the cassette and pop it in its place every time you need to use it. If that’s how you use Philips Norelco Shaver a trimmer in the majority of the time, you probably won’t like the trimmer attachment shipped with the Series s. Finally, the foil frame is unnecessarily wide and the head just doesn’t glide as easily on the skin. And this is quite important for getting a quick shave, especially if your beard is dense and thick.
