More than the brand, the motor oil’s viscosity grade is of greater importance when choosing between Amsoil and Mobil 1 products. In essence, both offer the most common mobil 1 full synthetic oil grades from 0W20 to 20W-50. Depending on the type of oil blend recommended for your vehicle, some variants may only be available through one of these two brands.

Synthetic oils are created by breaking down crude oil on the molecular level and rebuilding them to a specific innate and uniform structure, which nearly eliminates deterioration. Viscosity refers to a liquid’s ability to resist flow – essentially how thick or thin it is. Honey is considered to have a high viscosity, whereas water has a low viscosity. Motor oil with a low viscosity is able to seep into the tight spaces between the components inside a modern motor. But it might have a tough time holding up to the heat and filling the wider gaps of an older engine.

However, Amsoil beat Mobil to it by formulating the first API-certified fully synthetic SAE 10W-40 motor oil, which hit the shelves in 1972. If there was anything good from WWII, it was synthetic oil. Germans originally pioneered this technology during the 1940s amid all the grim and chaos. And when the war was over, this innovation made its way into aviation in the ‘60s, where synthetic esters became popular and were used in turbine engines. It was at this point that current big oil companies saw the potential for synthetic oils. Both of these synthetic oil does an excellent job in their respective field.

Though it was originally released to safely enhance fuel efficiency, later formulations of Mobil 1 motor oil offered outstanding wear protection over the widest range of temperatures. From that time, the presence of Mobil 1 mobil 1 full synthetic on race tracks and circuits has grown by global proportions. Today, Mobil 1 synthetic oil is relied on for its ability to deliver exceptional engine performance and protection even under some of the most extreme conditions.

Mobil 1™ motor oils are put to the test in the lab, on the road and on the track – duplicating some of the toughest, most extreme, real-life conditions anywhere in the world. This is also why Mobil 1 motor oil lubricants are chosen by many of the world’s leading auto manufacturers. Mobil 1 is chosen by more than half of all NASCAR teams and mobil 1 oil is the Official Motor Oil of NASCAR. You know the oil change industry is seriously competitive. Survival is a matter of mastering market trends to attract new customers and keep the ones you have. Today’s move to synthetics, longer vehicle ownership, and longer periods between oil-changes are all driving a change in the products used.
