More than six months later, the seat hasn’t gotten any softer but I’ve gotten used to it. I find it most uncomfortable when riding for 45 minutes or longer, or during classes when I’m not out of the saddle. Stationary exercise bikes like schwinn spin bike Peloton are a popular pandemic purchase. In fact, we’re big fans of the brand, and named the Bike+ our top pick in our test of exercise bikes. But it’s also an expensive purchase—$2,495 for the new Bike+ and $1,895 for the original Bike.

The seat is adjustable in 4-way and offers 7 different adjustment positions. The ACTIVE Reviews Team is made up of fitness experts that include athletes, coaches, and certified trainers who bring years of knowledge and experience to each review. More importantly, each member of our team is a fitness enthusiast.

Airdyne bikes have moving arm bars to make total-body workouts convenient. There are some additional costs to keep in mind, like spin shoes, a tablet if you don’t already own one, and the price of the fitness app you choose to use with the IC4. For example, I pay a monthly subscription fee of $12.99 to use the Peloton app for workouts on my Schwinn IC4 bike. It’s a fairly low price to pay, considering that Peloton bike users fork over $40 a month for access to the same content. The one notable difference is that app users don’t have access to or show up on the Peloton leaderboard, which shows riders how they rank against others in the class. This isn’t a make or break for me, but it may be for some riders.

Put all this together and the Evolution SR is definitely an investment. OK, there are less expensive ones by other companies as well as in the Schwinn line (as low as $800). We also highly suggest a user go for the upgraded heavy-duty Triple Link Pedals, allowing clip-in on one side and regular shoes on the other. There is great variation among each of their lineups, but here are some generalizations. These bikes have been around since the late 70’s and since that time replacement parts have remained basically the same. They still use wedge pins in the crank arms, and a two crank system with a left and right eccentric arm.

A little disappointed that this bike will not directly connect to Peloton on Android devices, but I monitor and gather data using third party apps and still use the Peloton app mostly for guidance and motivation. The bike is very sturdy, very well built and what I most happy with, very quiet. Unless I’m taking a live class, I prefer to preload my Peloton workouts before riding and recommend you do the same. I experience occasional huffy beach cruiser buffering issues with the Peloton iOS app (and trust me, you don’t want to run into that during the middle of a heavy climb) but preloading classes before starting fixed this issue for me. The Schwinn IC4 Indoor Cycling Bike retails for $899, which can be paid for with Schwinn’s interest-free financing plan of $49.90 a month for 18 months. I purchased mine directly from Schwinn in May 2020 when the MSRP was $799.

Although you’ll have to say goodbye to some of the fancier features like a built-in workout program, this bike still helps you get fit. If you’re someone who knows how to exercise at your own pace or is willing to look up exercises on an app or a tablet, you’ll be able to make it work perfectly. This bike is just as sturdy and durable as others on the market, but it’s on the more affordable side for those looking to work out without breaking the bank. Not all indoor bikes require cycling shoes, but they can offer you more stability while giving you a stronger base for solid strides. And similar to any other pair of shoes, comfort is key when you’re considering how a pair of shoes fit. If you’re buying any piece of home gym equipment, you likely have some fitness goals you’re trying to reach.
