Dyson reveals its big bet robots

There’s also an additional filter, cleaning tool, a water tank along with a washable mopping cloth. However, everything else about this robot vacuum cleaner is top drawer, from the logical way it maps a room to the efficient way it cleans. Now all Roborock needs to do is follow iRobot’s lead and create a model with a self-emptying bin. This is the most expensive robot shark cordless vacuum cleaner we’ve reviewed. Cleaning power and performance may go some way towards justifying the cost, but there are alternatives that do a good job for a lot less. Thanks to its powerful motor, the Dyson 360 Heurist cleans as well as a regular vacuum cleaner, sucking mess out of carpet and hard floors with ease, cleaning right up to the edges of the room.

We’ll have to wait until we can test one out to know for sure. It’s also worth mentioning that some 360 Eye press materials suggest that the vacuum can identify what kind of surface it’s on, and will prioritize cleaning “easier” surfaces first. On occasion, the app would not allow our testers to start the vacuum; it stalled, waiting for a software update which did not come.

The good news is that the extractors are easily removable and without brushes and bristles to get in the way they wipe off easily. If you happen to rearrange your furniture or add new obstacles, the Roomba 980 will probably bump into them once. Each of the robots is able to have cleaning cycles scheduled. The robot is Wi-Fi enabled and comes with its own iPhone app, which is how you can schedule the 360 Eye’s cleaning schedule remotely. The thing that holds it back from being a bestseller is the price. But for those who can afford it, it is a really nice luxury item to have at home.

Fortunately, you do not have to use the app to use the robot or enjoy its cleaning intelligence. The Dyson 30 Eye vacuum ships with a charging station that features a base with connectors and, at a right angle, an A4-sized white plastic back with two black targets on it. The robot vacuum uses the symbols to find its charging station . The charging base has a port on each side for the charging cable – a nice touch that gives you more flexibility on placement. I’m not saying the Dyson 360 Eye is not a good vacuum or expertly-designed product. It certainly is, but the product, which was actually launched in Japan almost a year ago, lacks the tech polish of, say, an iRobot Roomba, which has actually had robotic vacuums in consumer hands since 2002.

It only powers the vacuum when your finger is on the trigger and if you stop to move furniture or do something else, the vacuum immediately turns off. This is a great way to save battery life so you don’t waste any time navigating areas that have already been cleaned or moving around obstacles. It has a sleek black body with the central “CLEAN” button and similar layout and controls. The 890 has wifi-connectivity so you can pair it up with the iRobot HOME app and schedule cleanings or view other settings directly from your phone.

It’s the advanced controls that really prove useful, allowing you to set restrictions to control how the 360 Heurist. The Avoid Area option is basically the no-go option on other cleaners, but there are two other options alongside. The No Brush Bar option turns off the spinning bar, which is good for more delicate shark cordless hard floors and for deep-pile carpets. Finally, there’s a No Climb option, which prevents the robot from trying to lift up over obstacles, such as furniture that has support bars. For me, the latter feature proved useful for a coffee table that has an X-shaped set of legs that run across the floor.
