It won’t affect battery life in any significant way unless you end up taking them off for the night and forget to power them down with the button. Although there’s plenty of detail, until they’re turned up rather loud, the Beats Flex rather lack the dynamism and liveliness of more workout-orientated headphones such as the Adidas RPD-01. For Android beats studio3 users, it isn’t as easy, but the Flex work just like any other Bluetooth earphones and can be paired in the usual way. Beats Flex have a surprisingly well balanced audio output to accompany the expected punchy bass.
That comparison, more so than any other, feels the most pertinent as we hurtle toward the big iPhone 12 release date. And train stations just aren’t as busy as they once were. The Beats Flex have a flexible but formed neckband that grips the back of your neck ever so slightly.
Again, the best sound is experienced outside of music, with Beats’ drivers emphasizing vocals to hear dialogue better. I loved using these buds to take in my daily dose of political news via CNN clips, along with other YouTube content I normally binge during downtimes. Since they’re fairly small in size and have a flexible plastic and silicone design, you can easily stash them in most pockets or bags without an issue. They have an 11-hour continuous battery life, which should be enough for daily commutes.
The included USB-C charging cable is minimalistically short, but gives you enough leeway overall. Fortunately you won’t need to use it constantly, as you’re getting 12 hours of battery life off of each full charge. As an aside, I also noticed that the buds connected much faster to my Pixel 5 with the app installed, which helps cut down on the previously mentioned power on/connection tone delay. There’s no app for iOS because the features offered here are native on iOS thanks to the M1 chip in the Flex. The buds are light, there’s plenty of length to the connected cord so it doesn’t constantly pull on the buds, and even the controls on either side are lightweight enough that I don’t even notice them. Overall, these are probably some of the most comfortable neckbuds I’ve worn in … well, as long as I can remember, really.
