Once you’ve familiarised yourself with the concept, it’s important that you maintain your storage solution once it has been set up. One of the most frugal and versatile storage options for storing pipe tobacco is by using tupperware to make what is called a tupperdor.
There are no longer the unwritten rules about what you can and cannot do when smoking one. If you want to light your stogie on fire, that’s fine! If you want to drink an ice-cold glass of water, that is acceptable as well.
In most cases, burley tobacco is actually used in cigarettes. It’s air-cured and light which makes it ideal for cigarette smokers, but it is used as a base layer in pipe tobacco or to enhance the burning of it. It’s exceptionally high in nicotine and offers little sweetness and a very slow burn. Burley glass pipes tobacco is grown around the world and has the unique ability to hide its subtle flavor in almost any blend. It is often said by pipe smokers that they will dedicate certain pipes to certain tobaccos. This makes some sense in that tobaccos do leave some residual taste (sometimes called a “ghost”).
Kentucky Green River Burley is most commonly used to make Perique. This particular version is the Perique vaporizers bongs that most pipe smokers are familiar with. Perique is a spice tobacco, usually used in Virginia blends.
It would appear that Perique’s future is as bright as it has been for some time. There are several colors, including the well-known Black Cavendish, numerous blends, and a wide range of flavors. Modern blends include flavors and ingredients such as cherry, chocolate, coconut, rum, strawberry, vanilla, walnut, and bourbon.
