Huffy saw the rise of high volume retailers before any other company and that was the main reason for their downfall. They fell like prey to Walmart and that is when their decline started, it all started with bulk products. Huffy is a good brand but it cannot compete with the top-level brands of today. While their bikes are not exactly high-end or have high-end components in them, it should be noted that they do make good bikes that can be used without problems.
At this point, much of the work was being done by women who were filling the void left by the vast numbers of men who had been inducted into the armed forces. The later part of the war period proved to be difficult as the production of consumer products in all industries virtually ceased and Horace, Sr., suffered a fatal heart attack in 1945. S overriding problem during the 1990s, however, and that was contending with Asian competitors. Huffy, holding a 30 percent share of the $1.5 billion U.S. market, bore the brunt of the damage stemming from the incursion of Asian producers and saw its profitability sag. The worst period for Huffy arrived in 1995, when the company recorded a crippling $10.5 million loss.
Huffy beach cruisers are heavy and come with some low-tier components, but they are good for budget-constricted buyers. If you want a bike to ride occasionally, have fun on the weekends, or do short huffy mountain bike commutes, a Huffy cruiser bike is a decent choice. So if you want your kid to fall in love with cycling at an early age, a Disney- or Marvel-themed Huffy kids bike seems like the recipe for success.
Huffy’s goal in restructuring was to maximize operating efficiency by eliminating excess production capacity and reducing annual bicycle operating expenses. This left Huffy with no choice but to fight back aggressively by cutting excess capacity and costs. The growth of the corporation during the 1980s was significant and Huffy was nearly a Fortune 500 Company.
