It’s perfectly stable during normal flight, and you can switch to a high-speed Sport mode or a low-speed Cinema option to net shots with a stunning sense of motion or a more graceful, slower-moving look. The Mini 2 really zips around the air in Sport, but you should be extra careful with obstacles, as it won’t stop on a dime when moving that fast. Real-life flight times will vary a bit, and tend to be a few minutes shorter—closer to 27 minutes of actual flight time. The DJI Fly control app warns you when the battery is getting low, so you can bring the drone home safely and land it. The app, and a smartphone to run it, are requirements—DJI Fly is available for current-gen Android and iOS handsets. I’ve just ordered mine with the care package at a total price of approx £600.
Zero interference, at least 100′ clear of any trees etc… The larger, Mavic 2 Pro, may be quieter, especially if equipped with low noise propellors. MY brother’s Pro is barely audible at 100′, whereas my mini can be heard clearly.
The old saying that the best camera is the one you have with you is just as true when that camera is attached to a drone. The next QuickShot mode is perfect for showing off your surroundings. The Circle mode keeps you in the middle of the frame while slowly flying around you in a perfect circle. This can capture a complete 360-degree view of your surroundings while making sure you remain the star of the show.
The blacks and shadows hold up very well and the overall image still looks rich. There is visible noise in the shadows, but my advice is to lean into those shadows, make them darker and a lot of that noise will get removed. And though it obviously dji mini 2 fly more combo has a worse camera than DJI’s bigger drones, it’s still a very good camera. I underestimated the Mini 2 at first, but I soon discovered a ton of little improvements that make this new $449 drone a perfect package for a content creator on the go.
It doesn’t look any different than cropping the original footage. It’s a nice little bonus feature which could work in a pinch, but I wouldn’t rely on it too much. Even though the sensor is unchanged, it is now capable of shooting 4K video at 100 Mbps bitrate up to 30fps compared to 2.7K at 60 Mbps that was on the original dji drones Mavic Mini. But in my past few weeks with the Mini 2, I rarely even bothered with doing a lot of post-processing of my RAWs. I am usually very happy with what I get directly from the drone and can apply minor edits myself if needed. Photos look sharp and they hold a good level of detail and contrast up to 1600 ISO.
