Alen Breathesmart Review

The brilliant engineering that went into the FLEX is obvious when you compare the CADR rating to FLEX’s max. Lasko Box Fan FLEX has a maximal airflow of 187 CFM. This is one of the few air purifiers that can deliver a 225 CADR rating at below 200 CFM max. That’s really brilliant engineering; you will hardly find such CADR to airflow ratio even in the large room $800+ air purifiers. You should choose the FLEX filter based on your situation.

Estimated filter life is 6-12 months with high use, months for normal use and only months for light use. Of course, this performance comes at a cost, but its alen breathesmart performance backs up its price tag and is helped by being very energy efficient. I’m pleased to say it has lived up to the expectations of an Alen product.

Unfortunately, the filter on the Alen BreatheSmart Flex is not a HEPA standard filter. At only $149 this small and powerful air purifier might be the best deal yet. Well worth considering if you’re looking to improve the air quality in your home. The manufacturer offers a lifetime warranty which is an indicator of very high quality. The SmartSensor technology monitors the air quality and keeps the pollutants and allergens to a minimum.

To assess the Alen BreatheSmart air purifiers, they had a trial with 40 individuals with poor sleep quality. They remove 99.99% of air pollutants like dust, smoke, pollen, etc. down to 0.1-microns; standard HEPA removes 99.97% of air pollutants down to 0.3-microns. It is the most powerful filter ever existed and works extremely well for consumer use. It filters the smallest particles down to 0.3 microns including all sorts of dust, germs, mold, pollens. The lights-out mode turns lights off and provides soothing pink noise for better sleep.

I noticed that I had to clean the prefilter fairly often though. Maybe once every 12 days or so, which is a fair trade-off for the kind of quality air it pumps out. In fact, I can’t recommend this classic air purifier highly enough. The Alen BreatheSmart Air Purifier features an easy to replace True HEPA style filter that combines several layers of filter technology to purify and freshen the air in your home. Polluted air first passes through Alen’s washable pre-filter to capture large particles, extending the life of the filter. Optional filter upgrades are available with additional filtration layers to address bacteria, chemicals, heavy odor and smoke concerns.

And when harmful particles are detected, Auto-mode can automatically adjust purifying power to keep your air pure 24/7. The efficacy of an air purifier is typically measured in air exchanges per hour, or how many times within an hour the air in a room is completely replaced. A rate of six exchanges per hour or more is considered very good and would meet our standards. If your square footage exceeds the listed square footage for your air purifier, it can still clean your room, but the rate at which it can do so decreases.

This test feels more appropriate to a Blueair 211+ air purifier, due to its obvious size resemblance. However, as it turned out, Alen FLEX showed better results contrary to a Blueair. This fact doesn’t come as a surprise since it is designed to cover a much larger space than this one. My first tangible experience with these air purifiers tells me that Alen FLEX seems of better quality, in terms of construction and the material, as opposed to Blueair 211+. A loving father and a dedicated reviewer for airfuji.com with more than 1000 air purifiers under his belt.
