The up and down swivel of the head that we’ve seen on all Braun models from the Series 5 and up was actually very useful in practice. The back of the 5018s is completely barren, with no slide-out trimmers or charging pins. It is very clicky and easy to operate, including when your hand is wet or covered in foam. The thumb rest area integrates the power button as well and it sits pretty much flush with the surface. Like all the other 2020 models, the Series 5 also has a thumb rest on the front part. Its position is just right and it’s covered in the same rubberized material.
Inside the Series 5; the Lithium-ion battery takes an hour to charge and provides 45 minutes of shaving time. I was able to get a full shaves out of it before having to recharge the battery. Only disadvantage being that you cannot use this device when plugged in. If you don’t mind cleaning your shaver manually and you are comfortable using shaving creams, then 5040s is really a good find.
Series 5 is on par with Series 7 in terms of shaving closeness. With almost the same cutting elements, shavers from both series can satisfy most men. They do not deliver the closest shave in the category of foil shavers but are still at the top of the class. In addition, you will experience a lot more vibration and noise shaving with Series 5, whereas the counterpart gives you a less trembling and quieter shave.
I’m used to the 5 series shaver and although this is a 5 according to Braun, it’s more like a 5a type. Lastly, it cleans by only tapping the head to shake out the cuttings and then brushing the rest away. Only minus is you have to change the head to attach a trimmer blade- it doesn’t pop up as on the 5 series shaver.

The head locking feature was really useful for shaving right under my nose. When it comes strictly to the closeness of the shave, the 5190cc is pretty good. I didn’t shave on weekends just to see how it would Braun Series 5 deal with a longer beard on a Monday morning when you probably want to get it over with as fast as possible. I used the Series cc exclusively for 3 weeks, shaving daily and every other day for the most part.
If a manual clean of the Series 5 seems a bit fiddly that’s because it is. It takes a few good minutes to get all the hairs out and I was still not convinced that there weren’t any left. The Series cc comes with Braun’s Clean & Charge station, but you can also clean it manually if choose so. Cleaning our gear is an integral part of any shaving routine and ideally it should be fast and easy to perform. I will say it right off the bat, as far as shaving performance goes, they are very similar.
